There is so much to see and do in Pictou. From the Hector Heritage Quay where you will find the Ship Hector a replica of the Hector that carried the early pioneers from Scotland in 1773 to the Weekend Market, Pictou has lots of events and festivals to keep you busy.
The Pictou Lobster Carnival (July 9-11/2010) has become a signature event in Nova Scotia. This three day festival celebrates the end of the fishing season in the area, maritime culture and music. The event features musical performances at the Main Stage, a Beer Garden, a Mardi Gras Parade, an Antique Car Show, Derby Races, Boat Races, a Mid-Way, a Children's Parade and many other activities for the whole family.
The Pictou Weekend Market operates all summer and into the fall on weekends only except during special festivals. Located right downtown, the market features seasonal produce, baked goods, local crafts and unique collectibles from Nova Scotia artisans. Admission is free. The Hector Heritage Quay is one of Nova Scotia's major cultural tourist attractions. A series of imaginative and informative displays retell the story of the Ship Hector voyage in 1773. The centerpiece of the attraction is a full scale reproduction of the three masted, fully rigged ship Hector. Also on location, the Ship Hector Company Store featuring items built on site and official memorabilia.

The summer programming at the deCoste caters especially to you with a weekly series called “The Summer Sounds of Nova Scotia” featuring the best of Maritime singers, musicians and traditional Highland dancers. The Hector Festival, a five day celebration of our Celtic music and heritage, takes place in the second week of August.
